Smith-Green Community School Corporation receives Federal funding for Title 1 services.  The services help to provide reading support to struggling students.  An annual application must be submitted and a program budget is created.  Annually, the Corporation is allowed to roll over 15% of the allocated funds with no penalty or additional paperwork.  For the 2022-2023 school year, less than 85% of the allocated funds were expended.  Due to the amount of rollover being greater than 15%, the Corporation must consider other options to retain the funds.  

The Indiana Department of Education currently has 4 waiver options available to school corporations.  Smith-Green will utilize Option 1 – Increase Title 1 Carry Over from 15% to 25%.  This will ensure that no funding is lost and that the corporation will have the opportunity to encumber the funds.   The waiver will allow the funds to be rolled into the 2023-2024 Title budget.
