About the Garden

Since early September this year, a community-based committee of parents, community members, Smith-Green staff and students has been meeting to develop a plan to recognize and remember former students and staff members of the Smith-Green Community Schools family who have passed away.  Eagle Garden (student's suggestion for naming the memorial garden) has been identified.  We are excited about the possibilities this creates to celebrate the life of individuals who were and are important to our district.

The committee's vision is to create a living space of trees, plants, benches, and a new brick walkway designated as "Our Guardian Eagle Walkway" to honor those who have passed away and those individuals who have dedicated themselves to the school and community.  The new brick walkway is Phase I of a multi-phase project navigated by the community-based planning committee.

Eagle Garden will be showcased in the grassy area in front of the school (Tulley and Mulberry Streets) behind the existing school sign.  Funds to develop Eagle Garden will come from the community and individuals.  In order to finance Phase I (Our Guardian Eagle Walkway), the committee is accepting orders for commemorative bricks to be used in the walkway.  Click here for a copy of the order form.

Please share this information with those who would be interested in purchasing a commemorative brick for the walkway.  The committee's goal is to raise $10,000 through the sale of 200 bricks to complete Phase I (walkway and landscaping).  Instructions for returning the form are identified on the order form.

Phase 1 of the Eagle Garden was dedicated on May 20, 2010 with the Churubusco community coming together for the ceremonies at the corner of Tulley and Mulberry Streets. The memorial garden features a walkway composed of bricks honoring and remembering individuals who have made an impact on the Smith-Green Community Schools and the community.

As Eagle Garden grows and blooms, you will be kept up-to-date with information.  Thank you for considering this project in your planned giving this year.
