The HANDS (Helping Achieve New Direction Through Students) Foundation is a philanthropic organization composed of 15 students from Smith-Green Community Schools, Whitley County Consolidated Schools, and Whitko Community Schools. Each school corporation has five students in the group. HANDS members join the foundation as 8th graders and continue with the group through high school graduation.
Operating under the umbrella of the Whitley County Community Foundation and funded by the DEKKO Foundation, HANDS members gather monthly to complete community service projects and to award grant requests from Whitley County non-profit groups, schools, school groups, civic groups, libraries, and individual teachers.
If you are a teacher or representative of an above-described group and would like to apply for funding to help with a project or to pay for needed supplies, contact Mrs. Cook at Churubusco High School or stop by the main office of any Churubusco school to pick up an application.
